We had an incredible turn out with 42 Formula Fords entered for the weekend with 32 signed up for Friday practice. The weekend got off to a bumpy start. Load in Thursday was delayed due to Yamaha having rented the track until 7pm with a strict non disclosure agreement. They prevented us from accessing the paddock for pit space stripping until after dark. The racing gremlins continued to plague the event Saturday morning when the entire facility lost power during the drivers meeting. The CSRG staff and volunteers continued on and ran all the Saturday morning sessions on schedule. Unfortunately, without power, drivers at grid were told there was no timing and scoring. What we thought was going to be the morning qualifying session now caused confusion and comments from drivers. To be fair to all, we moved qualifying to the afternoon time slot, giving us two races Sunday morning with the finishing order of Race #1 setting the grid for Race #2. Not ideal, and not what anyone wanted, but the best we could do given the hand we were dealt.
We set the grid order for Saturdays qualifying based on best lap times from the Friday afternoon practice or Saturday morning’s run. We wanted to have the fast cars out front especially given the number of cars on track. Adam White in his Red Titan took pole, followed by another red Titan, James Hakewill with Danny Baker’s 61 Lotus in third. The Club Fords were led by John Plavan, Brian Forester, and Skip Streets.
Normally our races with CSRG are 25 minute sessions but due to the schedule being set originally as a qualifying, Sunday's mornings first run was only on the calendar for 20 minutes. Adam White did what we have seen him do so many times, took the lead and never looked back. Kelly Heil and James Hakewill came together in 11 leaving Kelly stationary for a while ruining his day. The Historic Ford podium was Adam White, Danny Baker, and James Hakewill. Club Ford saw John Plavan Jr., Brian Forester, and Skip Streets on the box.The Hard charger went to Criss Cook for moving up 4 places.
We only had just over and hour to reset for race number two. A full 25 minutes for this run with Adam White again on pole. Danny Baker hung on to second and Gabe Tesch, who was running with us for the first time, took the last step on the Historic Ford Podium. John Plavan took the win for Club Ford. Neil Porter was second and Skip Streets took the last step. Kelly Heil started back in the order but moved up 17 places for the most significant Hard Charger we have had all year. The final full race of the season was not without incident, on the first lap Chris Cook’s Crossle came together with Jay Street’s Titan in turn 11, bringing out the local yellow and two recovery vehicles.
The only thing left was the Top Gun Shoot out. For the sprint race we had 15 qualified; Paul Kitchen, Danny Baker, Jamie Moore, Glenn Woloski, Sam McCord, Adam White, Chris Schoap, Malon Brown, Eric Jones, Greg Hoff, Ben Zlotkin, Frederick Greis, Kelly Heil, Cris Cook, and Gabe Tesch. Nine drivers made it to the final grid, all looking to claim that big rodeo belt buckle for the win. The grid, set by a random draw, put newcomer hot shoe Gabe Tesch on pole with past winners Danny Baker and Adam White near the back. The stage was set. How long would it take Adam and Danny to work their way up front? The answer was not long, before the end of the second lap, Adam was out front and never looked back. He did have a moment with 4 wheels off on the outside of 8 and the gap narrowed but only monetarily. Skip, Gabe, and Kelly were battling it out with lots of position changes. Then came Danny, moving up through the field to join the battle. Lots of fun, but in the top gun shootout there is only one winner; our 2025 Top Gun is Adam White!
That concludes our 2025 season race report, but we can’t forget to mention the party. Brent Katusha’s shop hosted all Crossflow Cup competitors and guests on Saturday night for an all you can eat taco party. What was supposed to include Saturday race awards turned into all tacos and raffle prizes, with everyone walking away a winner. The weekend also saw two Memorial laps, one for Dave Vegher on Saturday and Bob Winkleman on Sunday. The Winkleman family were our guests at the taco party. They brought a great collection of photos to celebrate Bob’s life. We are all grateful for what Bob brought to our sport.
The raffle winners were:
Old School Model Works gasket set: Chris Schoap
Scott Young Enterprises: Alan Dezzani
Ivey Engines: Paul Kitchen
Dezzani Digital Art: Sam McCord
Kraus Racing Tires: John Plavan Jr.
Roger Kraus Racing: Ed VanTassel
Hoosier Tires: Brian Forester
CSRG Free Entry: Jay Streets
There was also a table of goodies with donations from Shippert Racing so everyone walked away with a prize.
Thank you all,
We look forward to racing with you next year, or better yet with CSRG at Thunderhill or with HMSA at Apex Motor Club. Both are coming up in November.
