CSRG AND CROSSFLOW CUP BOARD ANNOUNCE 2026 SCHEDULE CHANGES AND RUN GROUP PROBATION FOLLOWING LAGUNA SECA

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Following a mutual agreement between the Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG) Board and The Crossflow Cup Board, significant changes have been made to the remaining 2026 Crossflow Cup schedule.

During the CSRG Corkscrew Challenge at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on June 13–14, the on-track driving of the Crossflow Cup run group as a whole was deemed unacceptable. As a result, The Crossflow Cup run group has been placed on official probation for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Schedule Adjustments & Points Changes

To ensure the integrity and safety of vintage racing, the following calendar changes are effective immediately:

  • CSRG Charity Challenge: This event will no longer serve as a Crossflow Cup points race. However, CSRG will still accept Formula Fords and Club Fords to compete in a Group 6 run group.

  • 2026 Season Finale: The final Crossflow Cup points race of the season will now take place with the SCCA at Sonoma Raceway over Labor Day weekend (September 4–6, 2026).

Addressing the Laguna Seca Incidents

While vintage racing is highly competitive, the primary mission of both organizations is to provide an environment where drivers of varying age, skill levels, and experience can enjoy safe, sane on-track competition.

At Laguna Seca, the grid started with a strong field of 38 cars. While the majority of drivers behaved impeccably, the weekend saw a highly unusual and unacceptable frequency of incidents. Following a clean Friday practice, the group suffered multiple car-damaging incidents:

Saturday Morning

2 cars lost to damage

Sunday Qualifying

2 cars lost to damage

Sunday Main Race

2 separate incidents on a single lap resulting in 4 cars out and one driver injured

"As a group, we had more incidents in a single weekend than other run groups typically experience in an entire season," the Boards noted in a joint statement. "Though 80 percent of our drivers were not involved in these incidents, we take the safety of every single competitor seriously."

Investigation and Strict Probation Penalties

CSRG is currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into each individual incident from Laguna Seca. Appropriate penalties for individual drivers will be determined and assigned during the July CSRG Board Meeting.

However, the group-wide probation penalties are effective immediately. Moving forward under this probation, driver behavior will be under intense scrutiny. Any subsequent on-track contact by a driver may result in swift and severe punishment, up to and including an immediate 13-month suspension.

Preserving the Legacy of Crossflow Cup

The Crossflow Cup Series remains a premier community of dedicated racers. Ten years ago, Andrew Wait created something truly special, which Ethan and Rebecca have since elevated to incredible heights.

The Crossflow Cup Board and CSRG are fully unified in taking these firm steps today to correct the current trajectory, ensuring the series remains a safe, sustainable, and thrilling place to race for the next 10 years and beyond.
